Create 1-2 page Legacy Letter as a written expression of your core values, beliefs, life lessons and dreams to share with family members, friends or spiritual community as a way to help inform and influence the future.
- What do you say in a Legacy Letter?
- Why create one? Who will receive it?
- When is a good time to write one?
Write a letter or a short, simple booklet sharing your thoughts and photos. See sample letters as inspiration and use questions as prompts to draw from memory. Janice will help guide your creative process during class reflection and writing.
“I took Janice’s thought provoking and impactful three-part Legacy Letter Writing class this past Spring. Her knowledge and openness created a warm, inviting atmosphere. She encouraged us with her insights and prompts and invited students to share finished products with the class. Her expertise provided beginning writers with essential tools, even as she offered valuable insights to more experienced participants.
Janice showed us how to prepare our stories thoughtfully and uniquely. She gave us tools to celebrate successes, to incorporate humor if we chose to, and how to broach difficult issues that everyone encounters in life. Janice’s teaching style left me wanting more. I look forward to taking her “Life Writing Workshop,” and other workshops as well!

I am so glad to have attended your Legacy Letter writing class. At first I felt intimated, thinking how do I begin and what do I say? But the prompts you provided made it easy to get started. The collaboration with other students made the experience especially meaningful. I learned much more than anticipated and I look forward to taking your other classes.
Thank you for sharing your time and talent.
